Car PooIing
PATS is rolling out an innovatory car pooling program with the added benefit of permit-sharing. In effect: permit pooling.
We're working with AlterNetRide, an organization that puts subscribers in touch with each other for optimum car pooling economy. Once you've established your personal car pool, we'll amend your permit to allow you to use it for between 2 to 8 individual passengers/driver.
Sorry, but at this time Faculty and Staff only are eligible to participate in the permit sharing program.
Permit Eligibility
Customers with no current permit will be considered as a valid South Lot permit holder.
Participants may elect which of their valid permits to share.
The participant keeping their permit will be designated as the primary permit holder and will be held responsible for all citations on vehicles displaying that permit.
If the listed owner of the permit leaves the program, the group must surrender the permit. The remaining members of the pool may choose to form a new pool using a permit one member previously owned.
It is the responsibility of the group to monitor all financial and logistical issues associated with co-ownership of the permit.
The shared permit may only be used in the zone indicated on the permit (the people who are sharing the permit will no longer be able to park in their previous zone).
If participants decide to cancel their participation in the program, the permit for their previous zone may be reinstated if there is room in the zone. If not, they go to the top of the waitlist.
Participants sharing a permit will not be eligible for payroll deduction. Existing payroll deduction permits must be replaced with a new permit. The new permit must be paid for in full (It can be turned in for a pro-rated refund if the group disbands).
Parking and Transportation Services provides a web-based tool for participants to locate other interested parties (see below). The tool does not automatically indicate ownership of a permit so participants are encouraged to create their own groups.
