UNM's Free Evening Ride Service

LoboLift is a free on-demand ride service between any location on UNM’s Central Campus during evening hours.

Whether you're wrapping up a late-night study session, attending an evening club meeting, or simply out and about on campus after dark, LoboLift is here to escort you on your way. Call (505) 706-3430 and a driver will be dispatched to take you to your car or other campus location.

What you need to know:

Who can ride?

Current UNM students, faculty, and staff. Minor children of eligible riders may also be transported when accompanied by the qualifying adult. Dispatch will confirm eligibility when you call to request a ride.

Hours of Operation:

  • Monday through Friday, 6 P.M. to 11 P.M.
  • Last pickup at 10:45 P.M.

Service Area

  • Central Campus only between Central Avenue/Lomas Boulevard and University/Girard Boulevard
  • No service provided across any city streets

Common destinations include: UNM Housing/Casas del Rio, Johnson Center, University Libraries, Duck Pond, Central Campus parking lots, Greek Life housing, UNM Bookstore, Student Union Building, and more.

What to expect:

  • We must speak to the rider to confirm eligibility and location
  • Texting is available but a dispatcher will call you back before a ride is sent
Carts and capacity
  • Two carts for up to three (3) riders
  • One cart for up to five (5) riders

Rider Expectation:

When requesting a ride, please:

  • Be ready at your pick-up point
  • Follow drivers instructions
  • Wear your seatbelt while the cart is in motion
  • All children must occupy their own seat and wear a seatbelt

Guest policy

Transportation of non-university guests is limited to minor children accompanying qualifying UNM students, faculty, or staff.

LoboLift does not provide:

For safety and compliance, LoboLift cannot provide the following
  • Medical transport or emergencies
  • Transport for non-university guests (except minor children accompanied by an eligible rider)

Children and Infant Safety Requirements:

  • Children must be accompanied by an eligible UNM student, faculty, or staff member
  • All children must occupy their own seat and wear a seatbelt. Children may not be held by an adult while the cart is in motion
  • Infants must be secured in a car seat and the car seat must be secured with its own seatbelt
  • Riders must notify dispatch at the time of their call if a child or infant will be riding so the appropriate cart can be dispatched

All LoboLift carts are equipped with cameras that record audio and video during operating hours to support rider and driver safety. Riders must be able to board/exit the vehicle independently or with their own assistance.

Riders can request a ride by calling, (505) 706-3430. A dispatcher will confirm eligibility, location, and provide an estimated pickup time.

LoboLift is not a fixed-route shuttle or bus. It is an on-demand, point-to-point ride service using small electric carts driven by trained student employees. Riders request a ride by phone and are picked up and dropped off within the Central Campus service area.

LoboLift complements the UNM shuttle system, which runs fixed routes on set schedules and typically ends at 10 P.M. If your trip extends beyond the LoboLift service area, you can use a UNM shuttle to reach a nearby stop then connect to LoboLift for the final leg.

Together these services provide flexible and safe transportation around campus especially in the evening.

LoboLift is separate from UNM Police escort, but serves a similar safety-focused purpose. LoboLift is staffed by trained student employees rather than sworn police officers or other security staff. LoboLift is separate from UNM Police escort service and UNMPD service is still available, call UNMPD Campus Escort at (505) 277-2241.

LoboLift utilizes electric carts designed for campus travel. During winter months, carts are equipped with weather enclosures to improve comfort and safety for riders and drivers.

Capacity varies by carts in use:

  • Some carts can carry up to three (3) passengers
  • One cart can carry up to five (5) passengers

Cart assignment is based on availability and group size.

Yes, for safety and accountability, audio and video recording is in progress during all LoboLift trips.

  • UNM Police Department manages the camera system and video evidence.
  • Designated PATS administrators have limited, view-only access.
  • Student drivers do not have access to view or download recordings.

Video is stored securely and managed in coordination with UNM Police Department.

Service is provided during the academic semesters only. The service is not available during university closures, Spring/Fall breaks or intersession periods. Rides are available on a first-come, first-served basis. UNMPD services is still available, call UNMPD Campus Escort at (505) 277-2241.
LoboLift is launching its pilot program from January 20 to June 30, 2026. Ridership data and feedback will be used to evaluate the service and inform decisions about continued funding for the program.

No. Riders are not required to present a LoboID before a ride is dispatched. Dispatch will confirm that you are a current UNM student, faculty, or staff member when you call to request a ride.
Yes. All riders are required to wear a seatbelt while the cart is in motion for safety.
LoboLift is intended for UNM students, faculty, and staff. The only exception is minor children accompanying a qualifying UNM rider.
Dispatch collects basic information (first name, number of riders, pickup and drop-off location, and UNM affiliation) to ensure the service is used appropriately and to help drivers locate you quickly and safely.
