PATS Town Hall
In our one-hour session PATS will share more information about who we are, how parking zones and rates are structured on campus, upcoming changes to parking rates, details about upcoming construction projects, including their impact on parking lot access and relocations. In addition, the town hall will explore various user cases to help students, faculty, and staff better understand how changes may affect their daily campus experience.

Town Hall Q&A
UNM adopted its Integrated Campus Plan (ICP) that replaced the 2009 Master Plan and addresses all of UNM campuses. As outlined on the website, the ICP "guides The University's decisions on the physical environment, including the character of each campus, safety, access, wayfinding and signage, and sustainability." The UNM Campus Capital & Space Planning (CCSP) website provides the link to access the UNM ICP. Information specific to UNM PATS operations is available through our website.
There are many reasons why UNM branded vehicles may need to park in proximity lots. These could be based on a business need of the department that owns the vehicle or the services that the department that owns the vehicle is providing to departments located near those lots. At this time, UNM branded vehicles with government plates are authorized to park in marked "Official Vehicle" spaces, marked "Service Vehicle" spaces, and regular permitted spaces not otherwise restricted by signage. With that being said, PATS is open to continued conversations with our stakeholders and members of the campus community on ways to improve services related to parking and transportation.
In line with UNM 2040, a new parking structure will be built in the future but will require millions of dollars in funding to be build with a cost estimate of $19,000+ per parking space and $35,000+ per elevator.
PATS has 35 shuttles in operation with 19 utilizing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel with 11 routes throughout The University area. The City of Albuquerque Transit Authority (ABQRide) also provides transportation around UNM, with eight (8) established routes for commuters and has rack-and-ride services for bicyclists commuting to UNM. The Outdoor Adventure Club, through Recreational Services, offers the 5K Commuter Club membership for added benefits such as tune-ups, two (2) single day parking passes, a t-shirt, and more. There are escooter services available throughout Albuquerque through Lime (Green eScooters), Beam (Blue eScooters), and Spin (Orange eScooters).
The UNM Hospital School of Mednicine Enabling Project is expected to begin during Fall 2026. PATS in collaboration with Campus Capital & Space Planning, Facilities Design & Construction, and Real Estate Department is working on alternative locations for parking. We will inform our stakeholders and members of the UNM community once details have been finalized through our social platforms, a press release, and through our campus partners.

Our Business office is open Monday-Friday 7:30 A.M. to 5 P.M.
309 Emeritus parking permits were sold during AY24-25. The cost for AY25-26 will increase by $9 with the overall cost of $177.
Citation and Fines have increased to dissuade individuals from making poor parking decisions. Individuals discovered it was more advantageous to receive a parking citation than to purchase a parking permit or pay for hourly parking. Citations and Fines will not increase or decrease for this upcoming academic year, AY25-26.
No, scratcher permits are restricted to certain lots and are determined at time of sale.
Reserved parking spaces are either paid by an individual or a UNM department. If the reserved sign has the zone with a number, i.e. B-350, most likely the space was purchased by an individual. Departmental reserve parking spaces are paid by the UNM department and states which department above the zone number. These spaces are utilized in a variety of ways such as a dedicated space for a guest speaker to park during a special event.
The Cornell parking structure is paid parking throughout all levels. Meanwhile, the Yale parking structure is split between paid parking and permit parking. Paid parking on the first two levels is more convenient for short-term visitors with a higher turnover. Permit parking on the top levels are for long-term users who park regularly and are more familiar with the facility.
Depending on the location, Faculty & Staff waitlists rarely move since UNM does not have a high turnover as many stay at The University until retirement. Reserved waitlist can be years even more than a decade.
Electric Vehicle (EV) parking locations are paid services through our partner ChargePoint and customers must be actively charging their vehicle in order to park in these spaces. Installation of charging stations in paid parking locations can cost an excess of $5,000 for a dual-port station not including utility work and labor costs.
No, PATS does not have a designated shuttle stop specifically for A/E lot. There is a stop near Redondo Village Apartments on Johnson Field that the Redondo shuttle stops at. Visit our shuttles page or check out the Interactive Campus Map for shuttles routes and stop.
Faculty & Staff whose parking permits are paid through payroll deduction will automatically renew for the next academic year every July until payroll deduction is cancelled. For AY25-26, Fac/Staff parking permits will renew on Friday, June 25 and you will receive your parking permit via mail before your current AY24-25 permit expires.
Flexible parking options for Faculty & Staff can be found on the Faculty & Staff parking permit page. Submit your application and you will be contacted two to three business days once PATS has determined your eligibility.
