Traffic Notice: PNM and UNM alert residents of potential traffic delays during relocation of transmission line
June 23, 2021
PNM electrical equipment and facilities are located throughout our service area, sometimes in remote parts of the state, and other times woven throughout major metropolitan areas. Every structure and facility play an important role in helping PNM meet our responsibility to serve customers with safe, reliable power. Occasionally, structures may need to be moved to accommodate growth or construction projects, which is why PNM and UNM have recently collaborated to move a 3,000ft. section of a transmission line located near UNM Hospital in Albuquerque. The relocation of this section of power lines will help support UNMH as they work to build a new tower for the hospital. We would like to alert residents in the area that they may experience traffic issues while this work is being done.
PNM line crews will be working to relocate this section of the transmission line during the week of June 28 – July 2. Typical work hours will be Monday through Friday between 7am and 3pm. The relocation project will occur along Lomas Blvd. between Yale Blvd. and Stanford Dr. and will result in periodic lane closures, including short-term, full closures of Lomas in both directions, as needed for worker safety.
Safety is a core value and top priority with PNM and UNM. Below are simple tips to keep yourself and PNM crews safe during your daily commute:
- Plan ahead and consider an alternate driving route during construction hours to avoid the
project area and any delays entirely. - Please drive slowly when traveling through this area and keep an eye out for PNM crews
and pedestrians. - Give safe distance between your car and the workers and trucks. When you pass PNM line trucks working, drive like they are your family, because they are someone’s.
- Be aware of all signage throughout the project area and avoid distractions like your cellphone, eating, drinking, and conversing with other passengers.
While we do not anticipate any interruption of electric service because of this project, power outages do occur for a variety of reasons. If customers in the area do happen to experience an outage, please report it to PNM online at PNM.com/outage, text #OUT to 78766, or call 888-DIAL-PNM.
