Campus Boulevard Angled Parking - 10.28.2024

With the upcoming construction of the Center for Collaborative Arts & Technology (CCAT) building, Parking & Transportation Services (PATS) has adjusted our parking solutions. One of these solutions was to transition our parallel spaces along Campus Boulevard to reverse back-in angled parking. What do these improvements mean to our community? Increase safety for all by improving visibility, safety, and vehicle loading.
- Improved Visibility: Motorists do not have to back into traffic with limited visibility. When leaving a parking space, drivers are facing forward, allowing a better view of oncoming traffic, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
- Improved Safety: Motor passengers will be able to exit the vehicle in a manner that ushers towards the sidewalk, rather than the road. Drivers will be able to clearly see cyclists in the roadway with a direct line of sight.
- Improved Vehicle Loading: Cargo spaces will be adjacent to the sidewalk allowing for loading/unloading at the curb rather than the roadway.
This style of parking has been implemented nationwide, in cities like Austin, St. Louis, Columbia, Kansas City, Des Moines, and even here in Albuquerque. Parking spots along Campus Boulevard have increased by almost 200% with our previous parallel count at 37 with the new angled parking count at 109.

- Signal for Turn.
- Stop just past the parking space.
- Back into the space using side mirrors to view lines.

- Allow drivers extra room to park and avoid tailgating.
