January 28, 2021

UNM Parking & Transportation Services would like to inform you that the Phase II construction work for the new UNM Hospital Tower and Patient Parking Structure will begin Friday, January 29, 2021

Here’s what you need to know:

 Road Closures

  • Yale Blvd. between Lomas and Camino de Salud will be closed.
  • The outer westbound lane on Lomas Blvd. between the UNMH ER entrance and through the Yale Blvd. intersection will also be closed.

Alternate Vehicle Access

  • North Yale Blvd. between Tucker and Camino de Salud will reopen for use.
  • Access to UNMH/BBRP north entrance (including the current Patient parking structure) will now be available via north Yale and the newly realigned road just south of the IDTC building.

Pedestrian/Bicycle Access Points between Main and North Campuses

  • All pedestrian crosswalks at the Lomas and Yale intersection will be completely closed during Phase II work until further notice.
  • Crosswalks (aka access points) between Main and North Campuses are at Lomas and University, and at Lomas and Stanford.

G/Q and Redondo Shuttle Route Impact

  • G/Q Shuttle route has been rerouted from G/Q lots to Main Campus using Tucker Ave to University Blvd to Sigma Chi Rd to Yale Blvd to Duck Pond. The shuttle will return back to G/Q Lot from Duck Pond using Yale Blvd to Mesa Vista Rd to University Blvd and enter G Lot off of University Blvd.

  • The Redondo Shuttle will be rerouted to Main Campus by using Tucker Ave to University Blvd to Las Lomas Rd and return to North Campus from the Duck Pond using Yale Blvd to Lomas Blvd to University Blvd and enter North Campus on Tucker Ave.

  • Redondo stops that will be affected due to the construction with no service are:
  • Stop 5—OBS (Observatory stop on northbound Camino)
  • Stop 6—I Lot
  • Stop 9—Tucker SW (stop eliminated)
  • Stop12—PPD

TheWhere’s My Buswebsite and app have been updated with the reroute information.

*Lock Shop and Service Building Access

  • Access to the Service Building (204) and Lock Shop (220) will temporarily change due to the UNMH Construction project closing Yale Blvd. and Camino de Salud. Visit unm.edu/temporary-construction-access for pedestrian and vehicle access instructions.

As noted in previous notifications and throughout all phases of construction work, steps will be taken to help mitigate potential traffic and access issues in the affected area(s). Notifications will be sent out periodically to our permit holders to inform you of additional changes, utility outages, parking lot and/or road closures.

Please plan for extra time in your commute and, as always, be aware of construction workers while traveling in the area.
